Jodi Helmer

It has taken Jodi Helmer a long time to find a place to call home. She grew up in the suburbs of Toronto, Canada, but packed up her hockey bag and headed west after graduating from Trent University. She lived in Alberta, California, and Oregon before packing up once again and moving to North Carolina. Once the culture shock wore off, Helmer fell in love with living in the South.

While exploring all corners of the state—from Blowing Rock to Ocracoke, Helmer has developed a taste for sweet tea, Eastern North Carolina BBQ, and phrases that start with "Y’all". Helmer writes for publications including Backpacker, Women’s Health, Shape, American Way, Woman’s Day and Charlotte Magazine. She is also the author of The Green Year: 365 Small Things You Can Do to Make a Big Difference. When she isn’t working from her Charlotte home in her pajamas, she volunteers with a local dog rescue and goes hiking with her favorite handyman and their mutts, Molly, Milo, and Roxie.
